April 21rst: Today in 1918 the career of Manfred Von Richthofen came to an end. Some claim he was shot down by Roy Brown, some say he was hit by ground fire, but however it happened it was the end to one of the most famous fighter pilots ever. His records were shattered in the [...]

It had to happen

Wednesday, April 20th, 2005

This is just one of those things that had to happen. It may have happened before now, but this is a cool blog entry about what happened when a Klingon comes to a Civil War reenactment. Instant classic.

Today In History: Oliver Cromwell dissolves Parliment

Wednesday, April 20th, 2005

April 20th: Today in 1653 Oliver Cromwell dissolved Parliment after deciding they were hindering his rule. A ruthless dictator who turned down kingship because it would restrict his unlimited powers Cromwell actually made people long for the good old days of divine Monarchs. Unrestrained he launched wars against anyone who annoyed him and brutally repressed [...]

April 19th: Today in 1967 Pirates of the Caribbean opened in Disneyland. A great ride with many stories this is the ride that set the gold standard for an E Ticket ride for me when I was a boy, and I still enjoy it when I ride it now long after. Many more memorable events [...]

Monday, April 18th, 2005

Listen, my children, and you shall hear

Unforturnately for Dawes and Prescott, Longfellow didn’t include them so they are left out of history for most who have even heard of the ride to warn the American Militias at Lexington and Concord [...]

I suspect this is going to cause a lot of ‘I knew it’s.

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

This site is a pretty detailed listing of carnival and theme park ride accidents and news. The site is perfect for all those ‘I don’t ride those things because they just aren’t safe’ types. Most are just ride stalls, though some are pretty long stalls, quite a few are people doing dumb things on the [...]

Andy you’d best skedaddle

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

Civil war graphiti found in Andrew Johnston’s home under the wallpaper. He was pretty unpopular in the south so this is no great suprise, but kind of cool that they are preserving it, although I doubt it will age as well as ‘Halfdane was here‘ (scroll down for photo).
