September 6th: Today in 1995 Cal Ripken broke Lou Gerhig’s consecutive games played record. I was at the game and remember it as one of the most enjoyable evenings in my life, which is very odd considering I have never met Cal Ripken in person, but being a sports fan is odd. This was about three years before the Orioles decided that their only goal was to stay ahead of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays every year rather than try to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox. They do ok at staying ahead of the Devil Rays, but I keep hoping that someday they will decide to compete again.
Kurkjian: Make or break April? Is relatively upbeat look at the Orioles and the safety of their Manager Lee Mazzilli. I am an Orioles fan, and not objective here, but I am hopeful some of the young pitchers can produce this year.
Orioles’ DuBose arrested for DUI. No suprise there, I enjoy baseball, but I don’t think they are all saints. However the money quote in the article is a winner.
When instructed to recite the alphabet, DuBose allegedly said, “I’m from Alabama, and they have a different alphabet.”
Brilliant. Just Brilliant.
